Water, Water Everywhere … and on Your Head!

Have you ever tried walking with gallons of water on your head? This is your chance. You can also learn to make your own Toilet Tank Buddy and save thousands of litres of water per year. These creative ways to understand the science of clean water are brought to you by CAWST, the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology.

Right next to the handwashing station at Station B, of course. This is a drop-in event.

Speakerhead in the Sand

Lay down your towel, claim a hammock and fill your picnic basket with goodies (or grab a bite from a food truck) and prepare to be boggled by tales of invention and creativity. This special edition of Speakerhead will discuss the science behind the power of play.

The line-up:

  • IN THE GRIPS OF THE CLAW: Geoff Kallweit – Read Jones Christoffersen Consulting Engineers
  • THE SCIENCE OF SOUND: Avnish Mehta – Principle, Stand and Command
  • SHINING LIGHT ON CONCUSSION: Jeff Dunn, University of Calgary Prof from Parent of Sporty Teens
  • INGENUITY OF PLAY: Matt Leung – Coordinator of Active Play at Vivo for Healthier Generations

Opening Night with GZA

Gather your friends and family for a musical blast-off of Beakerhead 2015 where the audience will be lounging in a 6,400-square-foot sandbox.

Your guests for the evening? Science advocate and rapper GZA of the Grammy-nominated Wu-Tang Clan, alongside a Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques… talk about personifying a smash up of art, science and engineering!

After a 25-minute “countdown” filled with music, drumming and pyrotechnics, you’ll be part of launching a Beakerhead 2015! The party continues after sunset with Smalltown DJ’s. Proudly presented by Shaw.

Gates open at 7:00pm with showtime 7:30 pm

Please note that the event is outdoors in a sandbox, so consider Calgary’s unique weather and walking in a sandbox when deciding your clothing and footwear. All are welcome; recommended for ages 14 and up.

THE CLAW, what?!

The Claw is a 30-foot crane game that is being designed by some incredibly talented structural engineers based in Calgary for Beakerhead 2015. Everyone involved is excited to bring together a unique project that will be unveiled this September 16 to 20 at Station B in Fort Calgary, and the team want to share this experience with you!

So starting today, the T3rr0rByte13’s HobbyWare.org will be documenting the entire build of The Claw for you to enjoy. Beakerhead is stoked to be able to share in this experience to pull-off a challenging concept (in both build and playing!).
